My adopted country, beautiful America.

By Sheila Liu

I feel like to share an email that I sent to a young friend of mine - Hi, I have read what you recently posted on Facebook and I know that you have a heavy heart over the existence of "racism and discrimination in America." I feel the pain you are feeling because I, more or less, went through the same thing that you have been through and also because I care for you. I hope you will agree with me "racism exists in every corner in this world. America is still a nicer place to live in than most places in this world. That is why I came here 57 years ago, and I think, also why your parents brought you here. Yes, there are lots of ignorant people that need to be educated. The main reason I am writing to you is I hope that you are able to feel and to see the many beautiful things around you besides the ugly and unpleasant happenings. My faith allows me to see that God is present in all of this. So I do see "hope" in all this mess and I carry on my life as best I can. You believe in the phrase "sometimes you have to lose to win again."; however, I can not bear to see, during my lifetime, all that is beautiful is being destroyed in the name of revolution! Take Care! Love, Sheila
