Advent Devotional

Today's Scripture:
Psalm 126 1 When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. 2 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” 3 The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. 4 Restore our fortunes, LORD, like streams in the Negev. 5 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. 6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.

Reflect: Reflect on a story in your life that pertains to this scripture.
God has been very good to me and our family. However, this passage reminds me of 2017. While many think of Harvey, which was devastating for many in our city, it was also the year we lost Jamie’s mom to cancer within only a few months. Watching Jamie struggle with this while pregnant with the boys was extremely difficult for me. However, the our pouring of support we received during that time proved that God will provide. We have seen His many blessings continue in our lives, which has only strengthened my faith.

Read: What is this scripture telling you during this season?
Psalm 126 references the return of the Gods people to Israel and how God will restore them. To me, this passage encourages God’s people because even in life’s struggles there will be restoration. Through the tears and pain that life will bring, if we stay committed to God, there will be joy. God will provide for His people. Verse 3 tells us that God has done great things for all of us, and we will be filled with joy.

Respond: How is this scripture calling you to respond?
This passage makes me want lean in to help our church and our community as much as I can. God will provide has He always has, and I want to be a part of that restoration.
