We've all heard of the mind-numbing scavenger hunts and guessing games that survivors often experience upon the death of a loved one. One of the most loving gifts we can leave our loved ones during this time of sadness and confusion is the identification and roadmap of essential post-mortem information. Jerry and Betty Hanlon have developed a six-session course to show you how to do just this. The remaining schedule features:
July 27: Charles Robertson of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery will educate us on the processes, options and costs involved in selecting the final resting place of the remains of our loved one as well as related services. Charles, a retired pastor, will also talk to us about pre-paid funeral plans.
August 3: The Rev. Denise Phelps will explain the process of planning a memorial service for your loved one or, alternatively, creating your own memorial service in advance. Betty and Jerry Hanlon will talk about creating a legacy for a loved one by collecting historical information while they’re still with us and the many things that can be done in advance to make sure that an obituary is as complete as possible.
The course is presented free of charge on Thursday evenings 6 to 7:30 p.m. through August 3 in MTH A. You may bring a snack, if you wish. The course is based on Marge Jenkins' book and workbook, You Only Die Once. These may be purchased on Amazon: book: $14.99 or Kindle: $7.99: workbook: $12.99. Registration is required as space may be limited. Register HERE.
